Volunteering at an event can feel a little daunting, especially if it’s your first time.

This course is here to help you feel prepared. It covers what you may be asked to do before, during and at the end of an event, as well as how to represent the Lighthouse Charity when talking to people.

You don’t need to remember everything. You’ll have support, and you can come back to this guidance whenever you need it.

This course will help you:

Understand the different types of events you may support, what your role might involve and who will be there to help you.

Know who to find, what to do first and where to go if something isn’t as expected.

Know what materials you may have, how to set up a welcoming stand and what to check before the event starts.

Represent the Lighthouse Charity in a friendly, calm and respectful way, listen carefully and help people find the right support when needed.

Know what you can help with, when someone else should take the lead and when to stop and ask for support. For example, the course makes clear that trained Make It Visible team members should take the lead in support situations.

Follow the right steps at the end of the event, including anything you need to check, pack away or report.
