Foundation Course | 3 accompanying eLearning modules

Please note: This training is available to learners who have completed the CPD Foundation course.

Concerns about drugs or alcohol at work are not always clear-cut. You may notice a change, hear something from someone else, or be faced with a situation where you need to decide what to do next.

These three short modules build on the CPD Foundation course and give you the opportunity to put your learning into practice through realistic workplace situations.

You’ll follow a simple journey from recognising a concern, to putting safety first, and then responding with compassion when someone may need support.

The focus is not on diagnosing someone, investigating their personal life or making assumptions about drug or alcohol use. It is about working with the information you have, keeping people safe and responding fairly, respectfully and within your role.

Estimated completion time: 30 minutes

What these modules will help you do

Learn how to respond when you notice something that could be a concern, without jumping to conclusions.

You’ll explore how to separate what you know from what you assume, consider new information as it becomes available and recognise when something may need attention at work.

Build confidence in knowing what to do when there may be an immediate safety concern.

You’ll explore how to respond to the situation in front of you, put safe working first and follow the appropriate workplace process even when you don’t know the reason behind someone’s behaviour.

Explore how to respond to the person once the immediate safety concern has been addressed.

You’ll practise approaching conversations without judgement, listening when someone chooses to talk and balancing support, safety and your responsibilities at work.

You’ll also consider your boundaries and when someone may need additional support.
