Stress can affect anyone. Pressures from work, money, relationships, health or home life can sometimes build up and become difficult to manage.

This short course explores how to recognise the early signs of stress, understand what may be causing it and take practical steps before things become overwhelming.

Through realistic workplace situations, you’ll explore how stress can affect people differently, what you can do to manage pressure and why sometimes the situation itself needs to change.

The focus is on recognising stress early, taking manageable steps and knowing when to speak up or seek further support.

Estimated completion time: 15–20 minutes

This course will help you:

Explore the difference between everyday pressure and stress.

You’ll look at how demands at work and pressures outside work can build up, and why two people can experience the same situation differently.

Learn how stress can affect your body, thoughts, feelings and behaviour.

You’ll explore changes such as poor sleep, difficulty concentrating, irritability and feeling overwhelmed, and why recognising patterns can help you notice when stress is becoming a problem.

Explore the difference between dealing with the cause of stress and taking time to recover.

You’ll look at simple approaches such as agreeing priorities, asking for help, taking breaks and making time to unwind, while recognising that coping strategies cannot always remove the underlying problem.

Recognise when stress may need more than self-management.

You’ll explore when to speak to someone at work, seek professional advice or access support through the Lighthouse Charity and other appropriate services.
