Thank you for choosing to volunteer with the Lighthouse Charity and support people in construction who may be going through a difficult time – emotionally, physically or financially.

Starting a new volunteer role can feel daunting, and you may be unsure about what to say or what is expected of you. This training is here to help you feel prepared.

By the end of the module, you’ll be able to:

Follow a calm and structured process when supporting someone by phone or live chat.

Listen, ask appropriate questions and communicate clearly, calmly and with empathy.

Use appropriate language while keeping the conversation professional and within the boundaries of your role.

Identify different levels of need or risk and understand when further action may be required.

Record the right information, follow the correct process and help make sure the person can access appropriate support.
